TBF Background

  • In Rwanda, there is no football academy! Meaning an institution that brings young talented players, to live together united by their passion of football. As consequence, no Rwandan team has ever gone beyond the group stage of an international competition simply because the basis for playing modern football is not there.
  • However, we believe the lack of football infrastructure should not be a barrier for us to have players capable of competing at international level.
  • Therefore, we have embarked in a journey to change the situation. It is crucial to put in place football academies with a primary mission to detect talents, we know they are there, give them the minimum conditions to train and develop their skills to reach the level of perfection required today for modern football.
  • This does not necessarily require the players to go play in Europe. With today’s technology and means of communication, the work can begin from where the young talents are in Africa and continue later elsewhere in the world.

OUR AMBITION

1. National objectives

• Detect talents by choosing the best among the best players between 13 and 17 years old nationwide.

• With the help of qualified coaches, holding diplomas recognized by the Confederation of African Football,
the academy takes care of basic theoretical and practical training in football.

2. International goals

• The academy has demonstrated that it can provide basic football training, its players, if they were to play
abroad, they would not start from scratch. The academy wishes to have a collaboration and cooperation
with an advanced foreign football team or academy, preferably in Europe. Our main objective is to be an
incubator and a training center for that academy/team.

• Our ultimate goal is to have well-trained players, able to meet the requirements of modern football and
become professional players. And who at their turn will take their responsibility to develop Rwandan
football.

3. What has been done

• Today, the academy has 3 under-14 players that have the same technical, tactical, and physical quality.

• The academy also has 3 players who were selected for the Rwanda national under-17 team and 4 players
who were selected for the national under-20 team.

• Within 1 year of the academy existence, we have created a football team that participated in the interschool tournament at the national level and won the tournament. It enabled them to represent Rwanda at
the East African level. The team also participated in the Rwandan championship in the 2nd division at the
peace cup tournament.
